Craftsman of living materials
Lime plaster, micro-cement, sculpted volumes and organically shaped furniture. Surfaces that breathe, age gracefully, and tell a mineral story.
The Approach
I work raw material — lime, clay, cement — the way others work stone or wood. Each surface is unique, shaped by hand, bearing the traces of gesture and time.
My approach combines traditional mineral plaster techniques with a contemporary formal sensibility. The volumes I sculpt, the furniture I create, all stem from a single conviction: matter has a soul, and it is our role to reveal it.
Based in Sutton, in the Eastern Townships, I work on exceptional residential and commercial projects across Greater Montreal and the Laurentians, in close collaboration with architects, designers and discerning clients.
Living, breathing surfaces with deep natural tones. Each coat is applied by hand for a truly unique finish.
Ultra-smooth, seamless contemporary finish. Ideal for floors, countertops, showers and interior walls.
Niches, alcoves, arches, benches — organic forms integrated into architecture for truly one-of-a-kind spaces.
Tables, sinks, shelves and objects with organic forms, crafted in polished concrete or pigmented micro-cement.
Working together
Trained as a journeyman carpenter and joiner, I can read plans, understand structural constraints and get involved well before the plastering begins. Whether you are an architect, designer or private client, I adapt to how you work.
Mode 01
I work alongside the architect or designer from the outset — advising on forms, thicknesses, substrates and transitions — so that spaces are conceived to receive the plaster finishes in the best possible conditions.
Mode 02
I regularly work as a subcontractor for architects and general contractors. Comfortable on busy job sites, I integrate naturally into a team and respect established schedules.
Mode 03
I step in during the finishing phase on projects already underway, taking charge of all surfaces to be plastered and coordinating my presence with the other trades on site.
« Lou has a way of reading a space that goes far beyond technique. He understands the intention of a project before it has even been put into words. The result has a depth, a presence that you simply cannot achieve any other way. »
« Working with Lou means collaborating with someone who treats matter as a language. His finishes don't decorate a space — they define it. On every project, he brings a rigour and sensitivity that my clients notice immediately. »
« Lou is one of the few craftspeople I can truly co-create with. He doesn't simply execute — he proposes, questions, refines. His lime finishes gave our project an identity that no other material could have offered. »
« What struck me from the very beginning was his relationship with matter — almost philosophical. He talks about lime as something alive. And when you see the result, you understand exactly what he means. »
« We wanted something unique for our cottage — not a bathroom, a sanctuary. Lou understood it from the start. The micro-cement, the carved sink, the volumes… it has become the place in the house where we spend the most time. »
« We never expected to be so moved by a wall finish. But when the morning light slides across the living room, something happens — a warmth, a living texture. All our friends ask us what it is. »
